Whether you're looking to group up with your friends or meet new ones, using crossplay in Apex Legends gives you a whole host of new players to work together with or takedown.

Despite the feature initially being absent, in June 2020, Respawn developers announced that this would be changing, with the long-awaited cross-platform support finally arriving to the battle royale game.

Gamers can now play with their friends via crossplay on all platforms!

Is Apex Legends crossplay?

Cross-play is now functional across all platforms, including PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Origin, Steam, and Nintendo Switch. By default, PC players will only be matched with PC players in normal matchmaking, while console players will only be matched among themselves.

That being said, consoles can still play with PC should they so desire it, but they will need to be in a party together before they start matchmaking. After that, the game will include PC players in the pool to search from.

How to add friends in Apex Legends: PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch

Finding people to play with on other platforms is relatively easy, and all you'll need to connect with players on other platforms is their in-game name. Simply follow these steps:

Open Apex Legends
Navigate to the 'Friends' tab from the main menu
Hit the 'Find Friend' option
Search for their username
Select their profile from the drop-down menu
You're now friends and able to play with each other across platforms!

Keep in mind, the game will automatically look for any player matching that name on any system. After searching for another player, you will have to select the username that matches the platform they are playing on.

Simply search your friends' usernames on all platforms to find them.

How to turn off crossplay

Crossplay is automatically enabled in Apex Legends, so if you don't have to do anything right off the bat if you want to play with people on other platforms.

Head to the 'Game Menu' (the cog icon) whilst in the Lobby
Select 'Settings'
Towards the bottom of the list, you'll see Cross Platform Play
Change the setting to Disabled.

While this feature is available to use, it does create the possibility of longer wait times, though, effectively restricting the pool of players that the game can search for.

The ability to enable and disable crossplay will be in the settings menu, but it's enabled by default.

Does Apex Legends have cross-platform progression?

While this is something that's being considered by Respawn, the feature is not enabled in Apex Legends currently, so if you want to play on another console, your items and progress will not carry over.
